Impact to date

WASH in Primary Schools

Successfully working with the County Ministries of Education and Health in the delivery of our WASH project to help 77 primary schools build their own knowledge and capability using education and games with the following outcomes:.

  • 50,511 school children provided with WASH education.

  • 1155 Board of Management members educated and empowered in their roles and responsibilities under the Kenya Standards & Guidelines for WASH Infrastructure in Primary Schools in Kenya.

  • 77 Head Teachers and 94 Teacher Health Champions educated and empowered in their roles and responsibilities under the Kenya Standards & Guidelines for WASH Infrastructure in Primary Schools in Kenya.

  • 77 teachers and 154 students trained to set up and run School Health Clubs

  • 77 School Health Clubs taught how to make liquid soap for hand washing using locally available products.

  • 80% reduction in stomach illnesses due to waterborne diseases

  • Absenteeism significantly reduced due to improved student health and reduced MHM related issues.

  • 54 hand washing tanks supplied to 23 primary schools.

Reproductive health and Rights

  • Successfully advocated for increased reproductive health and family planning budget allocations in the County

  • Reached more than 10,000 youths with sexual reproductive health rights messages through edusports interventions.

  • Trained over 500 youths as health champions. on social accountability on county budgets and resources related to health

Entrepreneurship and Business development

  • Trained over 250 youths, including survivors of exploitative domestic work, on entrepreneurship and business skills

  • Provided small start up grants for 50 women to start small business

Collaboration

  • Recognized by the County Government of Kakamega as its primary WASH partner

  • Created Reproductive Health Advocacy Network in Kakamega County

  • Currently we are the convener and leader of Kakamega Community of practice Network

  • We are a member of HIV/AIDS technical working group in the County

  • We are a member of County government Gender-Based Violence technical working group
